Part 12: Sir Peter Wolfsbane
95 EXT. ASLAN'S CAMP, RIVER - LATE AFTERNOON
SUSAN DRIES HER HAIR. Lucy holds out a cloak for her.
You look like mum.
Susan feels the fabric between her fingers.
Mum hasn't had a dress like this since before the war.
We should bring her one back. A whole trunk full!
If we ever get back...
Lucy frowns. Susan stops herself.
I'm sorry I'm like that.
She smiles tightly.
We used to have fun together, didn't we?
Before you got boring.
A mischievous look crosses her face and she SPLASHES LUCY.
Lucy beams and splashes back. The girls fall into a water fight, splashing and laughing.
Still laughing SUSAN REACHES FOR A NEARBY TOWEL hanging over a bush. As she lifts it she reveals
MAUGRIM. HE JUMPS FROM THE BUSH GROWLING.
The girls spin to find...VARDAN CIRCLING from the other side.
Please don't try to run. We're tired...
And we'd prefer to kill you quickly.
Susan backs up. Lucy's eyes swivel to her sister, terrified.
Susan's hand goes to her dress. THE HORN'S NOT THERE. She looks across to HER OLD SKIRT...AND THE HORN.
Vardan advances, baring his yellow teeth.
Susan nods to Lucy. Lucy throws a handful of river pebbles in Maugrim's face. He staggers back.
Susan runs. Maugrim peels after her.
She snatches up the horn and fumbles it to her lips.
MAUGRIM CLOSES IN.
96 EXT. ASLAN'S CAMP, KNOLL - DAY
Peter and Aslan walk down the hill toward the camp.
Suddenly, A HORN BLAST SHAKES THE AIR. Peter freezes.
HE TAKES OFF DOWN THE HILL.
97 EXT. ASLAN'S CAMP, RIVER - LATE AFTERNOON
LUCY clings to the trunk of a tree, reaching down for SUSAN, who hangs from a lower branch.
MAUGRIM and VARDAN snap at her feet. A torn piece of Susan's robe hangs from Maugrim's teeth.
PETER RUSHES IN, SWORD DRAWN. Maugrim sees Peter and grins.
Maugrim circles Peter.
Come on, we've already been though this. We both know you haven't got it in you.
Peter, watch out!
Peter grasps his sword. Maugrim snaps his jaws.
Aslan, Oreius and his men arrive.
ASLAN LEAPS AND PINS VARDAN TO THE GROUND WITH A PAW.
Oreius pulls his weapon. Aslan checks him with a growl.
No! Stay your weapons. This is Peter's battle.
You may think you're a King. But you're going to die like a dog.
HE LEAPS, ALL TEETH. Peter cringes, gripping his blade. A blur of activity. THE WOLF FALLS UPON THE BOY.
They roll on the ground and then... LIE STILL.
Suddenly, Peter shoves Maugrim off. The wolf flops over, PETER'S SWORD STILL BURIED IN HIM.
Susan and Lucy climb down and run to join Aslan where Peter stares at the lifeless wolf.
Lucy and Susan throw their arms around Peter.
Aslan lifts his paw from Vardan who seizes the moment and makes a break for it. The wolf flees into the forest.
After him. He'll lead you to Edmund.
Oreius gallops off, followed by a squad of the fastest.
Peter turns to Aslan.
Clean your sword.
The girls step back as Peter goes down on one knee, confused. Aslan rests his paw on the boy's head.
Rise, Sir Peter Wolf's-Bane, Knight of Narnia.
Peter rises slowly. He nods to Aslan, then looks at his sisters, serious. He sheathes his sword.
99 EXT. WHITE WITCH'S CAMP - NIGHT
The Witch pours over her battle plans.
The minotaurs will take the left flanks. We'll keep the giants in reserve and send the dwarves in first.
SUDDENLY, THE RAGGED WOLF BURSTS INTO THE CLEARING, PASSING EDMUND AND GINARRBRIK. HE IS FOLLOWED BY OREIUS AND ASLAN'S MEN.
Witch and Otmin hear sounds of Ginarrbrik being attacked.
GENERAL OTMIN (contīd)
The Witch whips out her wand and races for the other side of camp.
100 EXT. WHITE WITCH'S CAMP, EDMUND'S TREE - NIGHT
THE WITCH BURSTS FROM THE TREES...THEN STOPS.
THERE, GAGGED AND BOUND TO THE TREE, HANGS GINARRBRIK.
Hoof marks shred the ground beneath his feet.
EDMUND IS GONE.
For a moment, the Witch's face goes red with anger. Suddenly, it calms. She plucks up Ginarrbrik's dagger.
The dwarf's eyes go wide as she stalks forward.
She raises the dagger and...CUTS HIM FREE.
You're not going to kill me?
She evaluates him for a while, calmly thinking.
She turns to Otmin.
WHITE WITCH (contīd)
We have work to do.
102 EXT. ASLAN'S CAMP - DAWN
Peter steps sleepily from his tent to see...
High on a ridge OREIUS DEPOSITS EDMUND WITH ASLAN
Oreius gives Peter a concerned look as he passes.
Susan and Lucy step out of their tent to find PETER, staring up at the ridge.
They follow his gaze to where...EDMUND AND ASLAN TALK ALONE.
She makes to run, but Peter rests a hand on her shoulder.
They all watch as the great Lion leads the boy down the hill. Edmund follows slowly, head down, ashamed.
Finally, they reach the Pevensies.
What's done is done. There is no need to speak to Edmund of what is past.
Aslan leaves them with their brother. Edmund clears his throat.
Lucy flings herself at him. He struggles to stay standing.
Are you alright?
I'm a little tired.
Susan breaks into a smile and hugs him.
Edmund looks up at Peter. Peter stares back, stone faced.
Get something to eat.
Peter turns towards their tent.
Edmund looks up, hopeful.
Try not to wander off.
103 EXT. TENT - MORNING
Peter watches troops prepare for battle.
Susan, Lucy and Edmund eat breakfast.
Narnia's not going to run out of toast, Ed.
Edmund smiles, his mouth full.
Peter turns to look at them.
And I'm sure they'll pack something up for the journey back.
Susan looks up from her eggs. Surprises. Suspicious.
We're going home?
You are. I promised Mum I'd keep you three safe.
But it doesn't mean I can't stay behind and help.
But they need us! All four of us.
Lucy, it's too dangerous. You almost drowned. Edmund was almost killed.
Which is why we have to stay.
Peter looks at his brother, surprised.
I've seen what the White Witch can do. And I've helped her do it.
Edmund looks back, clear-eyed.
We can't leave these people behind to suffer for it.
Lucy squeezes Edmund's hand and smiles at Peter.
I suppose that's it then.
Where are you going?
She takes her BOW AND QUIVER from a hook.
To get in some practice.
104 EXT. ASLAN'S CAMP, PRACTICE GROUND - DAY
SUSAN pulls her bow tight and lets fly...NAILING THE TARGET JUST OFF CENTER. She nods with satisfaction...
UNTIL A TINY DAGGER FLIES IN AND HITS THE BULL'S EYE. Lucy smiles innocently.
Across the field, Edmund and Peter practice sword fighting on their horses.
Come on. En guard. Keep your sword up like Oreius showed us. Now block!
MR. BEAVER (O.S.)
Edmund's horse REARS to avoid crushing Beaver.
The horse rolls its eyes.
My name is Philip.
The Witch has demanded a meeting with Aslan. She's on her way here.
Edmund looks at Peter, unsure.
SUDDENLY, HORNS ECHO ACROSS CAMP.
