Golden Apple

Golden Apple

After Digory Kirke brought evil in the form of Jadis into the new Narnia, he is commanded by Aslan to travel to the Garden north of Narnia to retrieve a golden Apple that will become the protection of Narnia. The Apple is said to give immortality to whomever eats it. Jadis does eat an Apple, and while it does give her unending life, she pays for it dearly. Once at the Garden, Digory is tempted by Jadis to take the Apple back to his dying mother, but he resists temptation and brings the Apple back to Aslan. There, the Apple is planted and grows into a mighty tree, which will protect Narnia from Jadis as long as it is tended to. Digory is given one of the apples off of that tree, and takes it back to his mother, and she is revived. Later, he plants the apple core in his backyard, and it grows into a tall tree. It blew down in a storm many years later, and Digory used the wood from that tree to create the Wardrobe. In the movie, Digory is seen to have a silver replica of the Golden Apple.
